Eleanor Dash is back, this time on Catalina Island for her best friend Emma’s wedding. Emma is starring in the film adaptation of Eleanor’s bestselling book, When In Rome, and she’s marrying the co-star playing the character of Connor. Real life Connor (Eleanor’s ex and nemesis), no longer extorting Eleanor, is also back. As are all our favorite characters from Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies. We have Harper (Eleanor’s sister), Oliver (Eleanor’s boyfriend), Connor’s ex-wife, and several new characters as well.

I read book one in this series in print, but having won an audio copy of this one from MacMillan through The StoryGraph, I went that route for this one. It was delightful. The only downside was that I couldn’t look at the footnotes, but the narrator did a great job of changing her voice to whisper these asides.

This is a fun whodunit that left me with a smile on my face. I’m looking forward to the final book and a television adaptation. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, funny, and zippy. It’s not revelatory or life-changing, but this cozy, lighthearted comic-mystery is a genre I enjoy when I’m in the right mood.

Do you have any recommendations with this vibe for when the mood strikes? Give me a list in the comments.

  • Romance includes a couple fade-to-black moments, but nothing explicit on the page.

As the title implies, there is a death/murder in this mystery.
