Old Soul
Two strangers meet at the Osaka airport and realize they have something in common. They've both experienced a loved one change, go nearly mad, and eventually die after encounters with a strangely seductive and seemingly timeless woman. Jake begins research and follows all the trails he can to figure out who this woman is after finding out his friend wasn't the only one. Simultaneously, we see "the woman/old soul" travel through the desert with her next possible... victim isn't quite the right word, but it's close enough.
I really wanted this to work for me. For some reason, I'd been craving a little horror and I kept seeing this one in the new books section of my library. The concept was intriguing, the writing engaging, but it just didn't meet all of my expectations. It had a much more sexual theme than I'd expected and the ending just didn't wow me. Overall, I was a little disappointed, but despite my qualms, it did keep me reading through to the end.
